2008 civics test · Question 41 of 100 · System of Government

Under our Constitution, some powers belong to the federal government. What is one power of the federal government?

In Chinese 根据宪法,有些权力属于联邦政府。说出联邦政府的一项权力。

Official answers

  • to print money印制货币
  • to declare war宣战
  • to create an army组建军队
  • to make treaties缔结条约

Any one of these answers is accepted unless the question asks for more than one.

Why this is the answer

The Constitution divides power between the national (federal) government and the states; this is called federalism. Some powers belong to the federal government because they affect the whole country, such as printing money, declaring war, creating an army, and making treaties with other countries. States cannot do these things on their own.
