Why did the colonists fight the British?

In Chinese 殖民者为什么与英国人作战?

Official answers

  • because of high taxes (taxation without representation)因为高额税收(无代表权却要纳税)
  • because the British army stayed in their houses (boarding, quartering)因为英军驻扎在他们家中(寄宿、驻军)
  • because they didn’t have self-government因为他们没有自治权

Any one of these answers is accepted unless the question asks for more than one.

Why this is the answer

The colonists fought the British in the American Revolution for several reasons. Britain taxed them without giving them representatives in Parliament, summed up as "taxation without representation." British soldiers were housed in colonists' homes (quartering). And the colonists did not have self-government. Any one of these reasons is correct.
