2025 civics test · Question 42 of 128 · System of Government

Who is Commander in Chief of the U.S. military?

In Chinese 谁是美国军队的三军统帅?

Official answer

  • The President (of the United States)(美国)总统

Why this is the answer

The Constitution names the president as Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy, which today means all branches of the U.S. military. Putting a civilian elected leader at the top of the military is an important principle called civilian control of the military. Note that Congress, not the president, has the power to declare war.
