Supreme Court justices serve for life. Why?

In Chinese 最高法院大法官是终身任职的。为什么?

Official answers

  • To be independent (of politics)为了保持(不受政治影响的)独立
  • To limit outside (political) influence为了限制外部(政治)影响

Any one of these answers is accepted unless the question asks for more than one.

Why this is the answer

Lifetime appointments let justices decide cases based on the law and the Constitution, without worrying about winning an election or keeping a job. Because they cannot be voted out or fired for unpopular decisions, they are more independent of politics and protected from outside political influence. This independence is a key part of the separation of powers.
