2008 civics test · Question 4 of 100 · Principles of American Government

What is an amendment?

In Chinese 什么是修正案?

Official answers

  • a change (to the Constitution)(对宪法的)修改
  • an addition (to the Constitution)(对宪法的)增补

Any one of these answers is accepted unless the question asks for more than one.

Why this is the answer

An amendment is a change or addition to the Constitution. The Founders knew the country would need to update its rules over time, so Article V describes a process for amending the Constitution. The process is intentionally difficult, requiring broad agreement from Congress and the states, which is why there are relatively few amendments.
