Official answers

  • announced our independence (from Great Britain)宣布了我们(脱离英国)独立
  • declared our independence (from Great Britain)宣告了我们(脱离英国)独立
  • said that the United States is free (from Great Britain)宣称美国(脱离英国)获得自由

Why this is the answer

The Declaration of Independence, adopted on July 4, 1776, announced that the thirteen American colonies were breaking away from Great Britain and were now free and independent states. It explained the colonists' reasons for separating. This is why Americans celebrate Independence Day on July 4.
